Terms and Conditions for UNCTAD Image Library
Effective Date: 1st October 2024
Welcome to the UNCTAD Image Library (the “Library”), a service provided by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). By accessing and using the Library, you agree to the following terms and conditions ("Terms"). Please read these Terms carefully before using the Library. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must refrain from using the Library.
1. General Use of the Library
The Library provides copyright-free images for legitimate use by members of the public. All images are offered under specific licensing terms, and users must comply with the following rules when accessing and using these images:
-
No Alterations: Images may not be edited, altered, modified, or otherwise changed in any way. This includes cropping, color changes, adding overlays, or any other type of alteration.
-
Fair Use Policy: Users must only download the images they need for their intended legitimate purposes. Mass or bulk downloading of hundreds of images without a clear, justified need is prohibited.
-
Copyright-Free Use: Images are provided on a copyright-free basis for non-commercial and educational use, unless otherwise specified. Users are encouraged to reference or attribute the source where appropriate but are not legally required to do so.
2. Registered Users
Certain galleries and collections of images are available only to registered users. By registering for access to restricted content, users agree to the following terms:
-
User Registration: Registered users must provide accurate and current information during the registration process. UNCTAD reserves the right to suspend or terminate access for users who provide false or misleading information.
-
Exclusive Content: Some images or collections are restricted to registered users only. These images may have additional terms, including licensing restrictions, that must be agreed to at the time of download.
-
Use of Registered Accounts: Each account is personal to the registered user and must not be shared or transferred to third parties. Misuse of accounts or violation of these terms may result in the suspension or termination of access.
3. Prohibited Uses
The images provided by the Library must not be used in any of the following ways:
- For any illegal, defamatory, or unethical purposes;
- In any manner that misrepresents, distorts, or falsifies the original context or purpose of the image;
- For commercial purposes, unless specifically authorized by UNCTAD;
- As part of any hateful, racist, sexist, discriminatory, or otherwise offensive content.
4. Fair Use and Download Limits
To ensure that all users have equitable access to the Library's resources, a Fair Use Policy applies to all downloads:
-
Reasonable Downloads: Users are limited to a reasonable number of downloads per session. Excessive or abusive downloading may result in the suspension of access to the Library.
-
Monitoring of Downloads: UNCTAD reserves the right to monitor download activity to ensure compliance with this Fair Use Policy. Accounts found to be violating this policy may be restricted or terminated without notice.
5. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Library and its contents are provided "as is" without any warranty, express or implied, including but not limited to the accuracy, reliability, or availability of the images. UNCTAD disclaims all liability for any damages arising from the use or misuse of the Library.
6. Limitation of Liability
UNCTAD will not be held liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the Library, even if UNCTAD has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
7. Modification of Terms
UNCTAD reserves the right to modify or amend these Terms at any time. Such changes will be posted on the Library website and will take effect immediately. It is the user's responsibility to review the Terms regularly.
8. Termination of Access
UNCTAD reserves the right to suspend or terminate a user's access to the Library at its discretion, without prior notice, for any violation of these Terms or any misuse of the services provided.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the applicable regulations of the United Nations. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved through the internal procedures of UNCTAD.
